My dog is enthusiastically grateful many times each day.
Seeing me in the morning sends him into a frenzy of corkscrew spins and leaps of pure joy. He does his utmost to ensure I get the message… he missed me during the night.
At breakfast, he sits beautifully with a paw up, hoping for a morsal from my plate. This would be evidence that I loved him and we were starting the day perfectly in his eyes.
Racing around downstairs with his favourite toy, is his way of saying he can’t wait for his walk. He then runs up the stairs, steals my husband’s sock. This results in the daily comedy sketch of “drop it”, whilst being chased. His excitement bubbles over before he flops down waiting for us to get a move on.
Walk time means adventures for him. Will he see any of his friends? Every walk seems to be his favourite walk. He gratefully springs up and down several times, trying to kiss us with his expressive “Thank you”. He also tries to kiss every single passer-by as if they are long lost relatives. I swear he would invite everyone to Sunday lunch if he could speak!
Back home, popping out of the door for even 10 seconds, to put the rubbish out or to get something from the car, means being greeted with tail wags and kisses every time we come back into the house. And so, the day continues. More enthusiasm, kisses, cuddles and toys dropped at our feet…presents of appreciation and undiluted joy. His energy driven by his love for us is relentless.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be so grateful, happy and full of love for such basics each day?
I think my dog has sussed out the real meaning of happiness 😊
